Bootrooms

An undeniable trend in recent years has been the upgrade of areas of our homes which in the past were seen as purely functional (see our Pantries insight). Nowhere is this more true than in the bootroom, or mudroom as we know it in the US, where what was once a drop and run point for filthy kit and wet dogs can now rival our sleekest spaces for photo friendly finishes.

The key with areas like bootrooms which are playing so many roles – entrance and exit point, boot drop, kit home, dog groomers, loo antechamber – is clever storage. An active couple or family, plus four legged friend, requires an awful lot of garb and gear and these need to be easily and tidily located to avoid the room becoming a pressure point at busy times.  Smartly lined tiles and joinery help create a sense of order here.

A liminal space in many ways, think of your bootroom like Superman’s phonebox: the place where your home persona dons its armour to take on the world, whether that be on the pitch, in the park or on the polo field.
